Oasis (Be here now)

Oasis.

Oh good god…it’s killing me, I can bear it no longer! Can someone please clarify if the Brit band Oasis ever preformed in SL? Now I know all you music people are saying to yourselves “this idiot thinks oasis played in Sri Lanka and we didn’t even know about it? Yeah right!” but this is the intricate tale I heard…
Apparently Oasis came to SL for some charity thing some time back (NOT tsunami related) and if my imagination isn’t running riot I’m pretty sure one of the Gallagher brothers has been to Sri Lanka! Anyways while they were here they had gone to Clancy’s for a few drinks after they had finished whatever it is they came for and someone had recognized them and asked them to play a song or two…and as the story goes they had obliged the crowd by actually playing!!!! Of course this story was related to me with a straight face and no one screamed “gotcha” afterwards, so to this day, whenever I hear a song by oasis I think to myself…did they really play in SL?
I mean I have every reason to believe that that didn’t play at all and that they didn’t even go to Clancy’s but honestly some little part of me is dying to know the truth…

Why all the commotion? Well firstly I believe that oasis is one of the few true rock bands around in the world today. I mean honestly take a look around, how many rock and roll bands still live the life of sex, drugs and rock and roll? How many of them get arrested frequently and land in newspapers for beating up an irritating journalist!?!? How many modern rockers go into rehab and get busted for possession of narcotics…not to say that I idolize drugs and those who have the balls to actually do the stuff….but that IS the so called rock culture and only Oasis lives up to that image created in the late 70’s. They have attitude, true rock and roll spirit and the music, the art, is amazing…I mean I didn’t know of Oasis until “Wonderwall” but after that I have bought almost every album released and downloaded every song ever performed by them (provided it was on the net) and the videos are just as cool particularly “D’you know what I mean” off the album Be here now, complete with the helicopters (Bell’s I’m assuming?) And the song itself was awesome…especially the start…the sound of a turboprop flying over head followed by the Morse code…SO cool!!!!!!!
But enough of this….will someone, anyone, please let me know if Oasis ever played in Sri Lanka…I’ll sleep better. And don’t waste my time unless you were actually there or something equally unbelievable, in which case I will hate you for the rest of your mortal life and beyond for sipping MY champagne supernova!
